I am writing to express my opinion that the WE Energies Oak Creek power plant should be phased out of service as soon as possible and replaced with clean solar and/or wind power. Climate change is upon us! It`s now or never if we are going to have any hope of reversing the effects of our changing climate. We have the technology! What we need is the will to force companies like WE Energies to modernize their operations.

I understand that customers (like me!) are paying $75 million a year to keep this inefficient plant running, even as it pollutes our air and water. How is that possible? No other business could operate so unprofitably and expect to force its customers to pay its exorbitant overhead. This situation reminds me of stories of the Pentagon paying $600 for a toilet seat. As in, who cares what it costs because the public is paying for it. Why should we be paying for WE Energies` failure to run its business efficiently, especially when their aging plant is a major source of air and water pollution?

What I WOULD be willing to pay more for is clean, renewable energy. THAT is an investment in our collective future. Continuing to allow this plant to operate is a travesty. I live within a few miles of it and I am also concerned about the long-term health hazards from its emissions. It is time to retire this plant and move to clean, renewable sources of energy that are healthier for people and the planet.

I urge you to take action to force WE Energies to abandon coal and bring its business into the 21st century.

I affirm that these comments are true and correct to the best of my knowledge and belief.
