|The distribution of power sources, e.g. local (including home-owned) is beneficial to the citizenry. It makes the electrical net more like the Internet, with multiple paths, providing robustness. I realize that selling power to the grid operators (power companies usually) reduces their revenue, and they must be compensated for maintaining the network. Yet with the ever increasing number of EVs requiring charging and with solar power generation often being a daytime affair, the entire usage paradigm is likely to invert; requiring more nighttime capacity. So energy storage (e.g. batteries) will become a factor as well. In conclusion we'll need all the energy we can muster without building fossil-fuel fired power plants.
